Welcome to Sunshine Nursery

We are a charity lead nursery based in Boldon Community Association. We offer childcare for children aged 0 to 4 years. At Sunshine Nursery we learn, we laugh, and we make friends. We offer 15 free hours childcare and 30 free hours childcare to children who are eligible.

We have two rooms - the Rainbow Room is for children aged from 0 to 2 and the Sunshine Room is for children aged 2 to 4 years old. We offer a caring, nurturing environment for the children to thrive. Both rooms have age-appropriate equipment alongside sensory play including water, sand, and messy play. We have an outdoor area which includes a mud kitchen, planting and growing area, a reading jungle, music area, water fun and building area.

We follow the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) framework to ensure that children reach their full potential as well as having fun every day. We offer a rich curriculum which has been designed alongside the EYFS to give the children a wide knowledge of different subjects and the world around them. Sunshine Nursery continually develops the curriculum and ensures it is accessible for all children in the setting. We will continually offer opportunities for children to learn and develop their physical skills, communication and language, and personal and social skills.

We plan our long-term themes throughout the year, but we are happy to follow children’s interests alongside our themes. We offer day trips with the children which can include to the farm, beach, or local woods.  We inform our parents of our learning intentions via Dojo and on our information notice board.  Our curriculum is designed to incorporate the seven areas of learning and development. These areas are:

♦ Communication and Language

♦ Personal Social and Emotional development

♦ Physical Development

♦ Literacy

♦ Mathematics

♦ Understanding the World

♦ Expressive Arts and Design

Our curriculum is inclusive so all children can access it.  We follow the SEN code of practice 2015 and have high expectations for all children with and without SEN or SEND needs.

All our practitioners are fully qualified and have first aid certificates. Practitioners also have extensive knowledge of the EYFS and have many years’ experience. The nursery has a qualified SENCO that can help guide families and will work closely with parents and other professionals to enable the child to reach their full potential.
